The weight of a dolphin can vary depending on the species of dolphin. The smallest species of dolphin, such as the Maui dolphin, can weigh as little as 55 pounds (25 kilograms), while the largest species of dolphin, the orca or killer whale, can weigh up to 12,000 pounds (5,443 kilograms).

Most common dolphin species, such as the bottlenose dolphin, typically weigh between 300 and 1,400 pounds (135 to 635 kilograms). Adult male bottlenose dolphins can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kilograms), while adult females usually weigh slightly less, around 600 pounds (272 kilograms).
